Exhibition Notice | "Chinese Character Structure" Furniture Series Shanghai Exhibition

家具是连接着地面和空间的中介物，三者紧密相关；中国传统木制家具更是经历了从地面升起至空间的发展历程——2025年感物“汉字结构”系列家具便包含了相关设计思考。在该系列家具正式发布之际，我们进一步想象：如果将其置于特定的建筑空间之中，它们之间又会发生怎样的对话？于是，我们策划主办了“汉字结构”系列家具的首次展览，探索它们在空间中的呈现方式。

Furniture acts as an intermediary connecting the ground and space, with all three closely related. Traditional Chinese wooden furniture has evolved from ground-level to elevated forms—a design philosophy embedded in Ugan concept’s 2025 "Chinese Character Structure" series. As the series officially launches, we furtherimagined what kind of dialogues would take placebetween them if they were placed in a specificarchitectural space. So we organized the first exhibition of the 'Chinese Character Structure' series of furniture,exploring the ways in which they can be presented in space.

Dialogue with Historic Architecture

感物“汉字结构”系列家具展览选址于上海设计共和。其所在的建筑曾经是英国警署，经过如恩的设计改造后，空间中仍保留了多处原有的结构，如红砖墙、壁炉、木构屋顶、旧门牌等。

The exhibition is hosted at Design Republic in Shanghai. The venue, a former British police station redesigned by Neri&Hu, retains original architectural elements like red-brick walls, fireplaces, timber roofs, and vintage door plaques.

此次的“汉字结构”系列家具展览位于三楼，共五个空间，主要展示感物“汉字结构”系列中不同高度、不同功能的多款设计家具，也结合了感物“东方建筑尺度系列”木地板进行呈现，试图在当代东方设计的家具、地板与再造老建筑之间构建一种独特的对话关系。

Held on the third floor across five rooms, the exhibition showcases furniture of varying heights and functions from the "Chinese Character Structure" series. Paired with Ugan’s "Oriental Architectural Scale" wood flooring, it creates a unique conversation between contemporary Eastern design and revitalized historic architecture.

Furniture Display in the Exhibition Space

从三楼入口处的古老木门进入展览区域，首先看到的是一组低尺度的落地桌椅，是由一把高足小禅椅拆分设计而来（“椅-贰”系列），用当代设计的语言重现古代东方席地品茶的经典场景。

Entering through an antique wooden door, visitors first encounter a low-height table and chairs ("Chair-II" series)—reimagined from a traditional high-legged Zen chair—recreating the classic Eastern tea-sitting scene through modern design.

向左进入第二个房间，陈设了一张榻、一张条凳、一套组合几柜和两把回收老椅，在被建筑师特意保留的斑驳壁炉印衬下，塑造出一个传统与当代碰撞交汇的会客空间。

The second room (left) features a daybed, bench, modular storage tables, and two reclaimed vintage chairs. Against a preserved mottled fireplace, this space blends tradition and modernity in a communal setting.

继续向左进入第三个更大的空间，空间地面用感物东方建筑尺度地板铺出两方“展台”，分别陈列了从低到高的一组椅子（“椅-贰”系列和“椅-叁”系列），以及不同形式组合的一组几柜。高低尺度变化之间，也展示着家具设计中对汉字模件组合方法的运用。

The third, larger room (further left) uses Ugan’s flooring to create two "display platforms." One exhibits chairs of ascending heights ("Chair-II" and "Chair-III" series); the other presents modular cabinets. The varying scales demonstrate the application of Chinese character-inspired modular design.

最后一个房间则单独放置了“椅-壹”——一件靠背坐具、一把禅椅和由它们叠加而成的一件高型组合椅并列呈现。

The final room displays "Chair-I"—a backrest seat, a Zen chair, and a tall combined chair formed by stacking both.

三楼入口向右的房间则是特设茶歇空间。房间一侧布置了禅椅、靠背椅、扶手椅和一张“汉字结构”系列的木桌，营造饮茶待客的场景；另一侧则设置了一套古典几案。

The room to the right of the entrance serves as a tea lounge. One side features a Zen chair, armchair, and wooden table from the series for tea service; the opposite side holds a classical long table（Ji an）.

Wood in the Exhibition

感物作为木地板品牌，很多设计表达都是基于对“木”的关注和理解，木制家具是其中的一种。除了“汉字结构”系列之外，展览现场还特设了三件另外的感物家具，包括感物邀请品物流形用42块木板缝制而成的“鞍-椅”、邀请梅数植用感物户外木地板设计的可拼接户外桌，以及请将究建筑设计事务所设计的茶几、座椅和边几组成的茶几组合。

As a wood flooring brand, Ugan’s designs express a deep understanding of wood, with wooden furniture being one manifestation. Beyond the "Chinese Character Structure" series, three additional Ugan pieces are featured:

- "An-Chair": A saddle-inspired chair hand-stitched from 42 wood boards by Pinwu.

- A modular outdoor table designed by Mei Shuzhi using Ugan’s outdoor flooring.

- A tea table set (table, stools, side table) by DRA architect.

展览中很多细节的布置也是用“木”的形式完成的，包括穿插在展览中的老木椅、展厅角落的沉香木香薰、用木头设计制作的咖啡盒等。

Many details of this exhibition were also arranged using the form of "wood," including the vintage wooden chairs interspersed among the furniture exhibits, the agarwood incense in the corners of the exhibition hall, and the coffee boxes designed and crafted from wood.
